Conocimiento y aprovechamiento tradicional de vertebrados silvestres en la comunidad maya de Zavala, municipio de Sotuta, Yucatán, México

The relationship between Mexican ethnic groups and wildlife is known by its use for nutritional medicinal purposes. Particularly, in the Maya culture ornamental ceremonial uses have been attributed to fauna. Similarly, different beliefs, stories legends developed around it. studies conducted document these relationships state of Yucatan are scarce; therefore this work was raised determine beliefs town Zavala. 174 semi-structured interviews were among men women ages. significant species then divided into seven categories use: food, medicine, pets, ornamental, ceremonial, mythical, ominous. 54 related with worldview residents identified, three classes, 20 orders, 38 families, genera. birds most represented 30 species, followed Mammalia class 19, Reptilia 5. Mammals group highest general index. With work, it concluded that inhabitants Zavala preserve their daily activities ancestral knowledge wildlife. Likewise, information collected contributes ethnozoology Yucatán.
